Rajkot, Responding to India’s 649 runs, West Indies scored 94 runs for the loss of six wickets in their first innings till the stumps, on day two of the first Test match here at Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium, Rajkot on Friday.
West Indies are trailing by 555 runs, while R Chase (27) with Keemo Paul (13) still on the crease.West Indies got off to a bad start as Mohammed Shami dismissed both the openers for seven runs in 4.1 overs-Kraigg Brathwaite (2) and Keiran Powel (1).
Then spinners too joined to pull down West Indies and forced them into a worst situation. The guest team kept loosing their wickets at regular intervals. Except Roston Chase’s 27 runs, no one could show any resistance. R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra jadeja bagged one wicket each.
Earlier in the day, India declared its innings at 649/9. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 100 off 132 off balls and remained unbeaten. Though, on the other side of the crease, wickets were falling one after another, but Jadeja kept hitting the ball all over the park to get past India 600-run mark.
During his innings, he hit five fours and as much sixes, while Virat Kohli scored 139 runs off 230 balls. He was dismissed by Sherman Lewis.
Devendra Bishoo bagged four wickets for 217 runs in 54 overs.
