BENGALURU: Playing good Samaritan,
Marathahalli police recovered a
stolen mobile within hours of the victims approaching them for help.
Ashok SK, a friend of the couple from Dubai, praised
city police on Facebook. According to Ashok’s post, his friends, Akanksha Attri and Shruti Sinha, went to Marathahalli police station on October 2 to file an FIR for a phone they’d lost in a Uber cab on September 29. The cab driver, who claimed he was innocent and said another passenger may have taken the phone, did not respond to their calls. The duo’s complaints with #UberHelp were in vain.
Marathahalli police heard their complaint and immediately called the driver, Ashok said in his post. The driver repeated the same story to the cops. A police officer later asked the couple to return by 5pm.
“They went to the station in the evening and were surprised to see the driver standing in a corner. The officer asked the couple, “Idu nimma phonaa madam, check maadi,” (Is this your mobile phone ma’am? Please check).” Once they got back the phone, the complainants were so grateful that they offered to pay the police, Ashok said. Instead, the officer told them, ‘Not all policemen are bad and corrupt, madam.” They only requested the couple to share their experience among friends so that there’s a change in perception towards the police force.
“This is an example of true policing. We have registered a case against the driver,” said DCP (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad.
