‘State behaving with sadistic mentality’

DMK president M.K. Stalin on Thursday urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to take steps to fulfil the genuine demands of transport workers, government employees and teachers instead of forcing them to resort to agitations.

Workers arrested

In a statement issued in Chennai, he said the transport workers were arrested when they tried to march towards the Secretariat in support of their demands.

“The government has not credited ₹7,000 crore arrears into their accounts and failed to pay any amount to workers who retired after December 2017. The workers also urged the government to take steps to prevent the decline in the number of passengers patronising the transport corporation buses,” he said.

Besides, the government employees and teachers had been demanding implementation of the old pension scheme.

“They resorted to a token strike as a prelude to the major agitation planned on November 27,” Mr Stalin said.

Accusing the State government of behaving with a “sadistic mentality” when it came to meeting the demands of government employees, Mr. Stalin said it was a curse that the Chief Secretary, instead of concentrating on administration, was participating in MGR centenary.
