AMBALA: A 31-year-old woman was attacked with acid by two motorcycle-borne men here on Thursday. The woman suffered 40-50 per cent burns on her face and stomach. She was taken to civil hospital in
Ambala from where she was transferred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where her situation is said to be critical.
A case was registered at Baldev Nagar police station by the family of the survivor under various sections of IPC.
A resident of Sector 7 of the city the survivor was working as a clerk in Labour Department, Ambala. Her husband works in Leh.
She was attacked by the men when she was returning from work at around 6 in the evening. The men threw acid on her and rode away. The incident was caught on a nearby CCTV camera. In the video the men can be seen attacking the woman, their faces were covered. The motorcycle used in the crime was without number plate.
A special investigation team under the leadership of Ambala deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ajit Kumar, Baldev Nagar station house officer, and in-charges of crime branch I & II teams has been formed. Police have not been able to record the survivor's statement as of now.
Deputy commissioner Sharandeep Kaur Brar said that all the expences regarding the treatment of the woman will be bourne by the government and Rs 1 lakh will be given to the survivor as fanancial support.
Investigation officer, sub-inspector Sube Singh said, “A case against unidentified persons has been registered under section 307 (attempt to murder), 326-A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the use of acid) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) has been registered. So far we have not been able to record the statement of the survivor woman, we have obtained the CCTV camera footage and the teams are investigating to identify the culprits. The statement of the woman is important and further investigation will be conducted accordingly.”
