Police search waters off Rottnest and Fremantle for missing fishermen
Helicopters, rescues vessels and a plane are searching for a boat off the coast of Cockburn Sound, Fremantle and Rottnest after four men failed to return from a fishing trip overnight.
Family members alerted police about 9pm on Thursday that the men had not returned from a planned fishing trip at Rottnest Island.
They had left Cockburn Sound the night before in a 5.5 metre boat, pictured above, and water police, volunteer sea rescue groups, Rottnest rangers and police spent Thursday night searching for the vessel but to no avail.
No emergency calls have been received from any occupants on board.
Three helicopters, nine vessels and an AMSA plane will join the search on Friday.
Police say the four people on board the missing boat are a 50-year-old man from Coodanup, his brother, the 24-year-old son of the 50-year-old man and another family member, a man aged 31.
Water Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been boating at Rottnest Island on Thursday and saw the white 5.5 metre vessel with the four men on board.
The Water Police can be contacted on 9442 8600.
