The first Solar Energy Corporation of India auctioned wind project was commissioned ahead of schedule on Friday by Sembcorp Energy and Suzlon.
A joint statement by Sembcorp and Suzlon said the project is the first among all SECI-auctioned wind projects to achieve completion. The project consists of 119 turbines completed ahead of SECI-set timeline.
“We partnered with Sembcorp from the pre-bid stage and delivered the full capacity ahead of the SECI timeline,” said JP Chalasani, Suzlon Group CEO.
Sembcorp-backed Green Infra Wind Energy had bid for developing 249.9 MW of wind energy generation projects at a tariff of ₹3.46 a unit.
Mytrah Energy (India), INOX wind and Ostro Kutch Wind were awarded projects of 250 MW each. Adani Green Energy (MP) bagged the right to develop projects of 50 MW. The total capacity on offer was 1,050 MW during the auctions conducted in April 2017.
Prospective sites
A Crisil report had said: “India’s first reverse e-auction for wind power closed with a rock-bottom winning bid of ₹3.46 per unit — compared with ₹4.16-6.02/unit feed-in-tariffs (FiT) for wind power across States.”
Bids for the 1 GW SECI wind-power tender were oversubscribed 2.7 times, with nearly 70 per cent of capacities applied for prospective sites in Tamil Nadu. The winning bid tariff was approximately 17 per cent below the FiT in Tamil Nadu, which is the lowest tariff offered across States.
