TRICHY: Human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday inaugurated Siemens Centre of Excellence (CoE) in manufacturing established at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy.
As the technology partner, Siemens, a German company, has rendered 90% of the Rs 190 crore fund for it as a grant. The rest was borne by NIT Trichy.

Stating that the centre would facilitate a multi-disciplinary learning environment across technology, engineering, science and management, Javadekar said even IITs in the country did not have such a facility.

The primary focus of the centre is to create a robust technical education eco-system through its experience in industrial products and services.

“This centre is intended to bridge the gap between industry requirements and technical education,” said NIT Trichy director Mini Shaji Thomas. It would make technical institutes more aligned with industry needs and make engineering graduate students industry ready, she added.

The facility would help in training engineering, polytechnic and ITI students of any institute for knowledge enrichment which will lead to an enhanced opportunity for placement.

Besides skill development courses, the centre shall offer consultancy and R&D services to industries in design and validation, advanced manufacturing, test and optimisation, automation, electrical and energy savings, process instrumentation, mechatronics, CNC machines, CNC controller, robotics, rapid prototyping and Internet of Things (IoT).
