LUDHIANA: A 28-year-old orchestra dancer was allegedly gang-raped by an auto-rickshaw driver and two fellow passengers a few minutes after she had hired the auto for her home.
According to her, the accused committed the crime after making her sniff something intoxicating that left her unconscious. The woman also accused that the trio decamped with her gold earnings, mobile phone and Rs 10,000 cash kept in her bag.
Though the incident occurred on October 1, the woman lodged a police complaint on Wednesday night. Police have lodged an FIR under sections of 376-D (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 379 (theft) of IPC and arrested the
auto driver.
In her complaint to police, the orchestra dancer alleged that at 8.30pm on October 1, she hired the auto after work. Besides the auto driver, there were two men in the vehicle.
She claimed as the driver was driving rashly, she asked him to slow down. Soon after, two men sitting by her side made her sniff something intoxicating after which she fell unconscious.
The woman alleged, “When I gained consciousness, I found myself in an isolated place. There the accused raped me. Further the trio also took my mobile phone, Rs 10,000 in cash and a pair of gold earnings. I begged them to allow me to go. The accused warned me of dire consequences if I dared to go to the police.”
Thereafter the accused escaped from the spot with the vehicle. The woman returned to her house and narrated everything to her family.
She added, “I was unwell and scared, so could not approach the police at the October 1 night.”
SHO inspector Davinder Kumar said the police received the complaint on Wednesday night and immediately lodged an FIR. The accused were identified as the woman told the police that the trio was calling each other by their names.
The inspector said, “The police have arrested the auto driver late on Wednesday night. However, his accomplices are absconding. The police are investigating the case and will arrest others soon.”
