Modi can’t blame Cong for nation’s problems: Rahul

NEW DELHI: Mounting a sharp attack on the NDA government, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said PM Modi could not be in power and keep blaming “Congress policies” for problems the country is facing, arguing that he should answer why bad loans had increased by Rs 10 lakh crore in four years and unemployment was the highest in 20 years.

“And if you give us (Congress) so much importance, then let us run the place and we will show you how to fix it,” he said at the HT Leadership Summit. Rahul said the PM had been ducking questions about his government’s performance from foreign policy to economy.

Addressing the audience, he said, “You have asked me relatively easy questions. I am perfectly happy to take sledgehammers. I’ve done it. Why is the PM of India incapable of sitting here and saying throw whatever you have at me.” The high-voltage attack on the saffron mascot came as Rahul also listed his priorities if he came to power — building low cost, high quality education and healthcare systems.

While saying that the Modi government had failed to build institutions, Rahul added he also did not agree with the Manmohan Singh regime’s philosophy on the issue. “I am being critical but we did not do enough in this area. Coming up with more AIIMS is not enough. Having new and technologically upgraded ones (AIIMS) is the key,” he said.

Continuing with his theme that RSS-BJP were engaged in ideological takeover of the country, Rahul accused the Narendra Modi government of waging a “war” on Indians to impose one thought on the entire population. “What is a country if it isn’t a multitude of voices, what is a country if it isn’t a conversation?” he asked. Rahul said the economy was down in the dumps and every sector was crying for help. “This, my friends, is the price of hatred,” he added.
