This 23-Mile Volkswagen Beetle Has A Crazy $1 Million Asking Price

The Volkswagen Beetle is a true automotive icon and one of the most important passenger vehicles of all time.

Designed at the request of Adolf Hitler as a cheap vehicle which the German masses could afford, the VW Beetle has been in production since 1938 but will be sadly killed off in 2019. It is perhaps the vehicle’s imminent death that has encouraged the owner of a particularly special Beetle to put the car up for sale on Hemmings.

This VW Beetle is a 1964 example and currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Viewed in these photos, it looks just like any other Beetle. However, it has a unique history which perhaps makes it one of the most desirable Beetles out there.

The car was purchased new by a man called Rudy Zvarich and the moment after picking up the keys, it was driven to a friend’s storage space. It was kept there for two years before being moved to a new facility where it sat untouched from 1966 to 2016 with a mere 22 miles (35 km) under its belt.

As the car has almost never seen sunlight, its paint is said to be in excellent condition, despite the thick layer of dust which covers it. The original windshield wipers, wing mirrors, and hubcaps have never been installed and remain in their original boxes. The interior has also barely been touched and includes red seats and red door panels.

When Zvarich passed away in 2014, his nephew inherited the vehicle. Its odometer has since ticked over to 23 miles after it was being moved out of storage but even still, it remains an extremely desirable car.

Remarkably, it has a $1 million price tag. Sure, it’s in pristine condition, but that is extremely excessive.
