ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court on Wednesday affirmed the judgment of Mainpuri sessions court, awarding capital punishment to one Sovaran Singh Prajapati for murdering his wife and daughter. Dismissing the appeal of the accused, a division bench comprising Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Justice Om Prakash allowed the reference of the court below.

Sovaran had allegedly killed his wife and daughter by hitting them with stone and bamboo when he failed to get money from his wife for purchasing liquor. Confirming the death penalty to the appellant, the court said that present case was one of the “rarest of rare case” because of the manner in which the mother and daughter were murdered by the appellant.

According to the court, the manner in which the two were murdered was diabolical. In the present criminal appeal, the accused had challenged the death sentence awarded to him by the sessions court.

As per case details, Sovaran, a resident of Karhal police station of Mainpuri, murdered his wife Mamta and his minor daughter by hitting them with stone and bamboo when she refused to give him money for purchasing liquor. The FIR in the case was registered at Karhal police station on June 30, 2014.
