The president of the world's international police organization, better known as Interpol, is missing. In a statement , Interpol said it's aware of media reports about the "alleged disappearance" of its president Meng Hongwei and that "this is a matter for the relevant authorities in both France and China." Meng's wife reportedly last heard from him on September 29 while he was traveling to his native China. The South China Morning Post reports Chinese authorities took him away soon after he arrived there, and is under investigation for unspecified reasons, according to an anonymous source. French authorities haven't confirmed those details, but did say he was not in France when he was last seen. Meng is also China's Vice Minister for Public Security and leads Interpol's National Central Bureau of China He was elected president of Interpol in 2016.
