The Central government has ranked Tamil Nadu second in the overall ranking of States having cleanest schools. Six government schools in the State were also recognised for their clean premises.

The award was presented by the Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Ministry at a function held in New Delhi recently.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami appreciated School Education Minister K Sengottaiyan and the teachers responsible for bagging the awards.
The annual award for cleanest schools was instituted by the Central government in 2014.
The six selected schools are the Government Higher Secondary School at T Chellapandipalayam in Karur district, Panchayat Union Primary School in Kombaithozhu Panchayat in Theni district, Panchayat Union Middle School in M Alampatti village in Sivaganga district, Panchayat Union Primary School in Ariyapakkam Panchayat in Tiruvallur district, K R Government Higher Secondary School in Avarampatti in Dindigul district and the Panchayat Union Primary School in Siluvaiseri Panchayat in Ariyalur district.
