PUNE: The Wakad police have booked three persons for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl on separate occasions in Pune, Hyderabad and Solapur over the last two years. One of the accused is her own father.
The girl, who is currently at an observation home in Mumbai, had opened up to a counsellor there a few days ago. The counsellor then lodged a complaint with the Mumbai police. The case was transferred to the Pimpri Chinchwad commissioner’s office on Wednesday and later, the Wakad police registered an FIR.

Police said the girl, who belongs to a poor family, was first raped by her father in 2016. She told her mother about it. The mother, a casual labourer, sent the child to Hyderabad — where the family has relatives — in a bid to keep her away from her father.

In her complaint, the counsellor added that the girl stayed with her relatives for a few months. However, the girl was tortured there and she ran away. She got to Hyderabad railway station and boarded a train. She was raped on the train by an unidentified man. She then reached Solapur railway station at night. She was accosted by another man and raped there, the FIR said. The girl told the counsellor that the third suspect was a “bald man”.

The girl somehow reached Pune by boarding another train. She returned to her house and started staying with her parents. However, six months ago, following some domestic issues, she ran away to Mumbai. Policemen in Mumbai found her on the platform and sent her to the observation home.
