Search continues for third child

In an apparent suicide pact, a woman along with three children, two girls and one boy, jumped into the Nagarjunasagar Left Canal here on Friday morning. The woman is battling for her life and the two girls were found dead and the boy is yet to be traced.

According to the police the victims are the family of police constable in Peddavoora Police Station A. Mohan.

According to witnesses Mohan’s wife Swati along with her three children Sathvika (6), Mithuna (4) and Mamanth Kumar (3) left home around 8.45 a.m. in the guise of taking them to school.

A local leader and an eyewitness Cheruku Muthyalu saw them jumping into the canal. He and some others jumped into the water to rescue them. “The woman was rushed to the local Yashoda Hospital. However, the two girls could not be resuscitated,” he said. The boy remained untraced till late in the evening.

According to the Haliya police, the family hailing from Tirumalagiri Sagar mandal had settled here for children’s schooling.

Police constable Mohan was “not available” since the incident, the local police said.

Family feud is suspected to be the reason for the woman to take the extreme step along with her children. The police are investigating and a search is on for Mohan.
