As Swine Flu cases in the state continues to rise, the Gujarat High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to provide details on what steps had been taken in the past to curb the viral disease and the steps it intends to propose for the future.

A division bench of chief justice R Subhash Reddy and justice VM Pancholi sought the details from the government while hearing a public interest litigation filed by Manasvi Thapar through advocate KR Koshti.

During the hearing on Wednesday, Thapar contended that despite a rise in the number of Swine Flu cases, the state government is not doing enough to prevent and contain the viral disease. The petitioner also contended that the shortage of doctors and the lack of infrastructure has further aggravated the problem, with several districts devoid of any testing facility for Swine Flu.

Notably, 348 cases of Swine Flu have been reported in Ahmedabad in September alone, which is a major cause of concern, with the tally crossing 787 for the state.
