The first two sessions have been all about the 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw who became the youngest Indian to score century on Test debut.
The debutant went onto become the youngest centurion on debut for India. joining the list of elites.
Shaw cruised to his hundred off 99 balls - third fastest on debut in Test cricket. Pujara and Shaw brought up the 200-run partnership for India but soon Pujara had to return to the pavilion
Soon, Shaw too followed Pujara after losing his wicket on a rather lazy shot. A soft dismissal was not expected at this stage but this is how it turns out in Test cricket.
With Kohli and Rahane fresh on batting, West Indies would look to gain more and create some pressure on the hosts in the final session
Shaw, who became the 293rd cricketer to represent India in Tests, showed supreme confidence from ball one, on which he offered a watchful leave.
Pacer Shanon Gabriel was clocking in the higher 140kph but that did not faze Shaw.
Gabriel trapped his opening partner K L Rahul in front with a sharp incoming delivery to give the West Indies an early breakthrough.
Rahul was better off not taking the DRS as the ball was clearly crashing into the stumps. The wicket wore a greenish look but the ball was not doing much after Gabriel's initial burst. After Rahul's dismissal, Shaw and Pujara gave the innings a move on and did not look in any sort of trouble.
Apart from Gabriel, the West Indies attack lacked teeth and Shaw capitalised on that.
Shaw punished both pacers and spinners without discrimination. He also produced a delightful straight drive on way to reaching his maiden half-century which came off 56 balls. Shaw's inning after his fifty accelerated to achieve the ultimate milestone.
A little later, Pujara too got to his half-century, off 67 balls, with a straight drive off debutant Sherman Lewis. The West Indians looked listless on the field as boundaries came at will for India.
Earlier, India won the toss and chose to bat first at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Shaw did not waste any time and looked set on the crease right from the start, with the help of well-executed shots, he reached his fifty on his debut.
First Session
