He suspected victim was in a relationship with his sister

A man was arrested and a minor apprehended on Tuesday in connection with a suspected case of honour killing, the police said on Wednesday. A 19-year-old tailor was bludgeoned to death in north-east Delhi’s Gokulpuri on September 25, the police said.

Washid and his minor accomplice have been apprehended, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Atul Kumar Thakur. A senior officer said Washid, a labourer, suspected that Faisal was in a relationship with his sister. The police did not confirm whether the victim was in a relationship with the woman.

Washid decided to kill Faisal. He used another person’s phone to call Faisal and asked him to meet on the pretext of spending time together. “When Faisal reached the spot, both the accused were waiting for him. They took him to a deserted spot and hit him on the head multiple times with a stone. They dumped his body there,” the officer said.

Faisal’s family went to New Mustafabad police station on September 26 and reported him missing.

During investigation, CCTV camera footage from the area was obtained and scanned. Faisal was spotted with two persons, later identified as Washid and the juvenile.

“He [Washid] was picked up for questioning on Tuesday. He broke down during sustained interrogation and confessed to Faisal’s murder. He said he suspected Faisal was in a relationship with his sister and that he did not approve of the relationship,” said the officer.

He added that Washid was arrested and the juvenile apprehended at Washid’s instance. The accused took the police to the spot where they had dumped Faisal’s body. The body had decomposed.

Mr. Thakur said a case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. Further investigation is under way.
