PUNE: The MahaMetro will shift at least three PMPML bus stops from their existing locations near the PMC building in Shivajinagar to make way for Metro work, including the construction of viaduct and elevated station.
The to-be-shifted bus stops, which cater to people heading to the Pashan,
Balewadi and
Kothrud areas, are located on the road stretch opposite to the PMC building. “These stops will be shifted to the other side of the road — outside the PMC building. The proposal was discussed at a recent joint meeting between MahaMetro and PMPML officials to make way for the Metro work in the area,” a MahaMetro official said.
The PMC Metro station will on the Vanaz-Civil Court route.
“The MahaMetro has already started the civil work on the Vanaz-Congress Bhavan stretch and the work on remaining stretch (from Congress Bhavan up to Civil Court) will start soon,” the official said.
The MahaMetro said pre-planning on the stretch near Congress Bhavan was vital considering that the huge number of vehicles, including PMPML buses, which ply on this section.
“Besides bearing the expenses for the shifting of the bus stops, which will include reconstruction of bus shelters, the MahaMetro will also install ‘no parking’ and ‘no halting’ sign boards on the stretch,” a PMPML official said.
The MahaMetro will also hold a meeting with the Pune traffic police department in the next few days to decide traffic movement in the area.
“According to the outcome of the meeting, a plan to execute the civil work will be prepared,” the MahaMetro official said.
The Pune Mahangar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has bus stops on both sides of the road outside the PMC building.
Commuters frequenting the areas said the authorities “should prepare a comprehensive plan to avoid inconvenience to road users during the Metro’s civil work”.
