KOLKATA: A kindergarten student of Mahadevi Birla World Academy suffered injuries after being knocked down by an app cab while he was walking out of his school around 2.35pm on Wednesday. Aditya Shetty (5), a resident of Parnasree in
Behala, was rushed to a private hospital in central Kolkata, where doctors treated him for multiple injuries.
“The child was trying to cross Darga Road, barely a few feet from the school gate, when the speeding car knocked him down. People rushed to the child’s help and the driver stopped the car. The car was seized and the driver was taken to Beniapukur police station,” a police officer said.
Locals said Darga Road remains crowded when schools along the stretch get over and students walk to their buses, pool cars or other vehicles. Motorists normally drive very carefully on this road. The app cab driver may have been on the way to pick up a passenger and seemed to be in a hurry, a witness said. The police said the driver will be charged under appropriate sections.
“It was a miraculous escape. The driver seems to have applied brakes immediately and the impact was not great. Still, Aditya suffered scratch injuries on his back and a cut on his
lip. We will keep him under observation for the next 48 to 72 hours before releasing him,” one of the doctors attending to him said.
