Reliance Industries, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Consultancy Services, IndusInd Bank and Hindustan Unilever were the top losers in the Sensex index.
NEW DELHI: In line with the benchmark Sensex, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices too were suffering losses in Thursday's session.

However, in terms of percentage loss, they were slightly better off than the equity benchmark.

Around 11 am, the midcap index was trading 1.34 per cent down at 14,480, while the smallcap index was 1.41 per cent down at 14,222. The BSE Sensex was 1.72 per cent down at 35,358 at that time.

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (down 4.17 per cent), Wockhardt (down 4.02 per cent), Kansai Nerolac Paints (down 3.99 per cent), Page Industries (down 3.93 per cent) and Emami (down 3.92 per cent) were among the top losers in the midcap index.

However, NLC India (up 6.41 per cent), Vakrangee (up 3 per cent), Reliance Communications (up 2.80 per cent), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (up 2.33 per cent) and Future Retail (up 2.09 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap pack.

Ashapura Intimates Fashion (down 9.98 per cent), Shiva Texyarn (down 8.30 per cent), Infibeam Avenues (down 7.72 per cent), Kalyani Investment Company (down 7.25 per cent) and Prestige Estates Projects (down 6.91 per cent) were among the top smallcap losers.

Shares of IL&FS Engineering & Construction Company (up 19.96 per cent), Capital Trust (up 8.91 per cent), Rollatainers (up 8.73 per cent), IL&FS Transportation Networks (up 8.71 per cent) and Precision Camshafts (up 6.11 per cent) were among the top gainers in the smallcap index.

Rupee's unabated fall, surging crude oil prices, firming bond yields and weakness in other Asian markets weighed on domestic market sentiment.

At the time of writing this report, the 30-share Sensex had only five gainers - Larsen & Toubro, YES Bank, Axis Bank, Tata Motors and Vedanta.

Reliance Industries, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Consultancy Services, IndusInd Bank and Hindustan Unilever were the top losers in the Sensex index.
