ALWAR: Cattle smugglers have found a new tactic by smuggling cows in cars to give cops a slip, the police in
Bharatpur rescued four cows who were being smuggled to
Haryana in a SUV with a New Delhi registration number on Wednesday.
At 2.30am, Nagar police station in Bharatpur intercepted a suspected vehicle which broke through the police barricades on Bharatpur-Nadbai road. “The speeding vehicle accelerated the speed after spotting the police at check point. The police chased the SUV, there was brief scuffle between the smugglers and the police,” an official said, adding that the four smugglers managed to flee, leaving their vehicle on the spot.
Three cows were sustained injuries during the illegal transportation. The police said that intensive check and search operation was launched after the incident but cops could not locate the accused.
“There was already an alert following an intelligence input about smugglers trying to rush smuggle cows,” an official said, adding that cows were brutally cramped inside the modified SUV.
“We have registered a case against the unidentified accused and seized the car. Efforts are being made to arrest the accused as soon as possible,” an official said.
Even on Tuesday, one smuggler was held in nearby
Alwar district during a confrontation with the police. The
cow smugglers were forcibly putting a cow and a calf into a jeep, when a police vehicle reached the spot at Tijara. After opening fire at the police, the smugglers ran away, but one of the smugglers fell down from the vehicle and was caught by the cops.
