BERHAMPUR: Police on Wednesday arrested another couple for the death of the two sisters, including a minor, at Chheligada under Gajapati district's R.Udayagiri police station limits. The couple, the brother-in-law and elder sister of the deceased, were arrested for abetment of suicide. They had made viral the semi-nude photographs of one of the deceased on social media.
Ganeswar Sahu, 28, and his wife Priya Achary, 23, who is one of the sisters of the deceased, were equally responsible for their death as they circulated the photographs in social media, said sub-divisional police officer (R.Udayagiri) Anil Kumar Pradhan.

On Monday, police arrested Pramod Achary and his wife Rajeswari for allegedly forcing their daughters, B Sapna, 18, and B.Kirana, 15, to drink a glass of pesticide each on Friday night after the pictures went viral and the marriage was called off. The bodies were recovered from a well on Saturday. Sources said the couple has five daughters, three of whom are married. The man had fixed the marriage of his fourth daughter in Bhubaneswar but the wedding was called off after the objectionable pictures went viral.

Earlier, Pramod had lodged an FIR saying that two of his five daughters had committed suicide by jumping into the well. In the complaint, he had held his son-in-law (Ganeswar) of the same village responsible for their suicide. During preliminary investigation, we came to know that their parents forced their daughters to commit suicide by offering them a glass of pesticide. "The couple had reportedly threatened to consume poison if the daughters refused to do so," the SDPO said. At the same time, probe revealed that their sister and brother-in-law were also equally responsible for their deaths, he said. Investigation was on to find out whether there are others involved, he said.
