CPM blames move to close public taps to help pvt firm

| Oct 5, 2018, 00:21 IST
Coimbatore: CPM politburo member G Ramakrishnan on Thursday condemned the city corporation for handing over the project to install water vending machines to a private company. He said the corporation had done this to fulfil the deals struck with the private company, which is implementing the 24x7 water supply scheme.
“Closing 1,500 public taps and placing water vending machines in their place will make people solely depend on the private firm for their water needs,” he said. He also wanted to know as to who had given the corporation the permission to give its land to the private firm to set up the water vending machines.

Ramakrishnan also sought the resignation of ministers, who were facing corruption charges. He urged the state government to stop the Centre from implementing hydrocarbon projects in Tamil Nadu.
