GURUGRAM: The department of town and country planning (DTCP) on Thursday asked the
developer of
Suncity to start the road repair work within seven days, and complete it within a month.
The senior town planner told residents that his team would inspect the township on November 10, and the MCG would oversee quality of the material used by the developer. “We have directed the developer to start the remaining repair work at the earliest, and complete it within a month. We will also carry out inspection in the township to examine if all roads are being recarpeted,” said senior town planner BK Saini.
The residents of Suncity have long been raising their concerns over the delay in MCG takeover of the colony, leading to the suspension of road repair work by the developer. “Construction of roads has been pending for a long time. The broken roads have many times led to accidents in the township. Last year, an elderly resident suffered a fracture in pelvic bone while walking on the road. After some days, he passed away. It’s not a lone incident. Bad roads have led to many accidents in the township,” said a resident.
“As the MCG takeover has been delayed, the developer was not very keen to repair colony roads. However, we are happy that the roads will be re-carpeted within a month,” said VMK Singh, another resident.
Last year, a delay in the MCG takeover process forced residents to take up the road repair work themselves. According to them, internal roads of a township have not been repaired for the last one decade. “We hired a contractor ourselves as both internal and approaching sector roads to the township were badly damaged. As the developer didn’t show any interest in improving the road infrastructure, we had no option other than carrying out road repair work ourselves,” Singh added.
An official spokesperson for Suncity told TOI, “Around 80% roads have already been repaired, and remaining 20% will be done within a month.”
