Police extradite man on historical child sex offences

A 72-year-old man will front court in Melbourne over a string of historical child sex offences after police extradited him from Brisbane.

Sano Taskforce detectives, with the assistance of Queensland Police, arrested and charged the Rockhampton man earlier this week.

The former Victorian resident was arrested in the Brisbane suburb of Spring Hill just after 11am on Tuesday.

He has been charged with 32 historic offences including rape and indecent assault.

It’s understood the man was working and living in western Victoria between 1980 and 1982 when the alleged incidents took place.

The victims were all teenage boys at the time of the incidents, police said.

The man was extradited back to Victoria yesterday and will be remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The Sano Taskforce specialise in investigating historical sexual assault and child abuse matters.

Victoria Police encourages all victims of sexual assault and child abuse, and anyone who has knowledge of such a crime, to make a report.

"Victoria Police is committed to investigating and bringing to justice those people who prey on children no matter how many years have passed," spokeswoman Alex Day said.
