Pune metro rail project awarded to Tata Siemens joint venture

Mumbai/ Pune: A joint venture of Tata Reality Infra and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH has been awarded the contract to build 23.3-km Pune Metro Rail’s third line between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar, managed by Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA).

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis handed over the Letter of Award to the consortium on Wednesday. PMRDA Chief Kiran Gitte said that the consortium has been awarded the project and the work order has also been issued to them.

The project will cost Rs 8,313 crore. The elevated metro line will originate from Hinjawadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, travel via Balewadi to Shivajinagar.

“The 23.3-km corridor with 23 stations will be the first metro project in India on Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model after the New Metro Rail Policy of 2017. The construction is scheduled to commence by June next year and will be completed within three years,” Fadnavis said.

Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority had invited interest bids and received responses from 3 firms including the Tata-Siemens joint venture and a joint venture between IRB and IL&FS.

Pune District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat, Chief Secretary DK Jain, Urban Development Principal Secretary Nitin Karir, Additional Chief Secretary UPS Madan, Additional Chief Secretary Pravin Pardeshi, PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Kiran Gitte, TATA Group President N Chandrasekaran, Siemens Global CEO Sunil Mathur were present.
