Thiruvananthapuram: The rural district police under Naruvamoodu police station limits have registered a case and launched a probe after they found a woman’s putrefying body in a house near Vedivachankovil on Wednesday.
The body was identified as that of Sujatha, 41, hailing from Naruvamoodu, who was residing in a rented house near Vedivachankovil, where she was found dead. The police have launched a search for a young man, who was living with her. However, they refused to divulge his identity.
The deceased was a cleaning staff at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station at Thampanoor. She was divorced from her husband since past four years and had been living-in with a man, who was much younger to her. The couple moved into the rented house near Vedivachamkovil only a month ago.
The police said that the body appeared to be around four days old. It was in a decaying stage and was infested by maggots, lying inside the bedroom of the house. A local woman, who had helped Sujatha rent the house, went in search of her as she noticed that she was not seen outside the house for the past few days. When she reached the house, she noticed strong stench emanating from the house and grew suspicious and promptly alerted the police.
“The front door was locked from inside and we entered inside after kicking it open. The police videographers were there to cover the proceedings,” said Naruvamoodu sub-inspector M R Prasad. Once entering the house, they found out that the kitchen door was not locked from inside as it ought to be. This led the cops to suspect the possibility of a
murder. On examining further, they found blood stains in the adjacent room.
The SI also said that there was prima facie no evidence that suggested a robbery. The ornaments she wore were still intact on the body, including a pair of gold earrings, a chain that is suspected to be imitation gold and a pair of silver anklets.
“But we need detailed examination to confirm that nothing else is lost from the house as we still don’t know about her possessions,” the SI said. Forensic experts were summoned to examine the house. The body was shifted to mortuary at the Medical College Hospital after completing inquest procedure. Post-mortem examination will be conducted on Thursday.
