Give copy of Punjab lawmaker’s degree to RTI applicant: CIC

NEW DELHI: Dubbing the refusal of an MLA to allow disclosure of information on his educational qualifications “perturbing”, central information commission has ordered DAV College, Chandigarh, to release a copy of the degree of AAP MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira to an RTI applicant.

The order came on a second appeal filed by RTI applicant Shashi Pal. However, the information was denied by the CPIO of DAV College, who said Khaira had refused to give consent.

CIC Divya Prakash Sinha dismissed the argument, saying: “The fact that a public representative denied disclosure of such information which has been declared by him in his affidavit defies the very spirit of transparency and accountability.”
