Mumbai: Kaizad Fitter of Bombay Gymkhana and Cyrus Mistry of Elphinstone Cricket Club (ECC), were both on a roll and in convincing fashion won their respective first round matches of the Bombay Gymkhana Handicap Billiards Tournament.Playing on the home tables, Fitter (-100 handicap) produced a steady performance and was in complete control against Iqbal Rokadia (-35 handicap) of ECC and won by a 200-72 points margin.
Meanwhile, Mistry (-100) came up with an impressive performance to knockout Rohan Sakalkar (-70) of Dadar Club coasting to an easy win. The seasoned cueist Mistry showed fluency and consistency with his shots and masterly crafted a 61 break to defeat Sakalkar 200-76 with a degree of comfort.
Another ECC cueist Sunil Jain also came through his first round defeating Radio Club’s Chinmay Gawde. Jain staring with a -130 handicap settled down quickly and grabbed every opportunity to gradually accumulate points to sneak past Gawde romping to a deserving 200-153 win and advance to the second round.
In another first round match, Nishit Chandan (-80) of Matunga Gymkhana had things much his own way and charged past Melwyn Mascarenhas (-120) of Catholic Gymkhana, winning by a long distance with the scores reading 200-21 in the former’s favour.
