Ruptured gas pipe likely behind fire that engulfed Gungahlin townhouses

Multiple townhouses in Gungahlin were damaged in a fire early on Wednesday morning, which emergency services believe was caused by a ruptured gas pipe.

Fire crews were called to extinguish the blaze as it engulfed a row of townhouses along Boreham Lane and Bruning Street about 1am.

No one was injured in the fire and police are now investigating.

It is understood damage to the properties was substantial.

A spokeswoman for ACT Fire & Rescue said initial investigations suggested the fire was caused by a ruptured gas pipe.

Police did not say whether they were treating the blaze as suspicious on Wednesday morning but urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
