NEW DELHI: Urban development minister
Hardeep Puri inaugurated
NDMC's green "happiness areas" in Yashwant Place, Nyay Marg and North Avenue on Tuesday.
Puri said that these areas developed by
New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) would help to relieve the mental stress and physical fatigue of residents and help to reduce the air pollution as well.
He said that NDMC, under the smart city projects, has started a number of new initiatives at public places to enhance the grandeur of parks and roundabouts through fountains and lighting. He added that these areas would also provide an open public space for people to visit.
Chairman of NDMC, Naresh Kumar, said that under this project, the council has already developed a number of green areas in New Delhi like India-Africa Friendship Rose Garden, Indo-BRICS Rose Garden, Indo-Asean Garden and Charkha Park. He added that in the same spirit, NDMC has recently completed these happiness areas at Yashwant Place, Nyay Marg and North Avenue and such other areas would also be developed.
In order to maintain the open defecation free status of NDMC area, the council will set up 109 smart public toilet units with innovative designs and modern utilities. "As many as 65 such PTUs had been constructed under PPP model," he added.
