Coimbatore: National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the city corporation to scientifically dispose 15.50 lakh cubic metre of accumulated solid waste at the Vellalore dump yard within four months, using biomining technique.
The order was passed while disposing a petition lodged by MDMK youth wing state secretary V Eshwaran.

Civic body had been disposing the accumulated solid waste using capping method. Terming it an old technique, NGT directed the civic body to follow the biomining method.

The city corporation, meanwhile, informed NGT that it had achieved about 80% of source segregation. “We will achieve 100% before the deadline that falls in 2019.”
