Tourist 'lucky to be alive' after second elephant attack in Zimbabwe
There’s been another attack by an elephant on a tourist in Zimbabwe, this time in the resort town of Victoria Falls, a wildlife official said on Monday.
The unnamed German tourist was seriously injured by the elephant on Saturday afternoon, and is “lucky to be alive,” said state parks and wildlife management authority spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo.
“The suspicion is the tourist got close, which made the elephant uncomfortable,” Farawo told News24.
“People need to know that this is the breeding season, and most of the elephants have calves around them so they tend to protect them,” he added.

China has reportedly said that it has "no plans to seize any Zimbabwean assets" despite the country failing to settle debt arrears.
According to the privately-owned Zimbabwe Independent newspaper, this came as China tried to downplay and reject "the oft-repeated charge that it is building a colonial empire in Africa in the same way European powers did in the 19th century".
The report quoted a senior diplomat from the Chinese embassy in Harare as saying that the Asian powerhouse's loan deals did not involve host countries mortgaging their resources to China.

Zim opposition leader Chamisa rejects Mnangagwa's offer - report
Zimbabwean opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, has reportedly rejected an offer by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to recognise him as the leader of the opposition.
According to The Standard, the Movement for Democratic Change leader, told his supporters over the weekend that he was challenging his rival's legitimacy.
Chamisa, who lost the presidential election to Mnangagwa has legally contested the outcome in court and rejected the court verdict, maintaining that he won the election.

Melania Trump touches down in Africa
Melania Trump on Tuesday arrived in Ghana on the first leg of her maiden, solo tour of Africa that has been billed as a chance to carve her own diplomatic path.
The US first lady stepped off an overnight flight from Andrews Airforce Base near Washington and onto a red carpet at Accra's Kotoka International Airport.
She was met by her Ghanaian counterpart Rebecca Akufo-Addo and a group of local schoolchildren in yellow and brown uniforms waving the US stars and stripes and the Ghanaian flag.
