AGRA: A
Farrukhabad sub-inspector, who was on escort duty of minister of state for finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, shot himself to death using his service revolver on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1.15 pm inside a bicycle shop near Farrukhabad-Shahjahanpur border at Hullapur square of Allahaganj area.
The deceased cop was identified as Taar Babu, a resident of Nagla Sona village in
Tundla,
Firozabad district. He was transferred to Farrukhabad only a week ago from Kanpur. The escort team was waiting for the minister, who was on a visit to the district to inaugurate a public sector bank in Awas Vikas Colony.
Speaking to TOI, Tribhuwan Singh, additional superintendent of police, Farrukhabad, said, “The sub-inspector fired three shots in his stomach and head with his service revolver. He had allegedly made a call to a relative before shooting himself. We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the suicide.”
“Before he killed himself, Babu was on a call with someone and looked visibly stressed. He got down from the police vehicle and walked inside a cycle shop at Hullapur square. Minutes later, three shots were heard and we found him in pool of blood,” said an officer, who did not wish to be named.
SI Babu was taken to the district hospital where doctors declared him dead.
