Thane: Nearly five lakh residents from the newly-developed stretches of Ghodbunder Road are reportedly facing acute
shortage of drinking water since the past two months.
The Ghodbunder Road area, considered as the developing zone of the lake city, is facing regular water cuts despite a good rainfall and adequate supply in the reservoirs this time of the year. As per the
revenue records, the Thane taluka that comprises Thane city and Navi Mumbai received more than average rainfall while the dams are also near to full their capacity.
“The supply to our areas has been intermittent on certain days. It is surprising that the city and dams supplying water to the reservoirs are full and we still are facing water cuts,” complained a resident from Ghodbunder area.
The issue also came up for discussion during the standing committee meet on Wednesday where corporators questioned the reason for these unexpected cuts. Shiv Sena corporators Naresh Manera and Sanjay Bhoir questioned this unexpected shortage of
water supply.
“All this while when a majority part of Ghodbunder Road was facing water supply problems for the last few months, a developer has secretly diverted supply meant for industrial purpose to his new residential complex without any approvals,” alleged Bhoir.
The administration later clarified that there was a technical snag in their system due to which there was a curtailment of supply in the Ghodbunder area, but assured to sort out the issue in the coming days.
“There was problem in the water meters and also the STEM plant at Pise was facing some technical problem due to which the water supply to a few parts of the city was
affected. We will normalize the supply soon,” said an official from the Thane Municipal Corporation’s water supply department.
