Four men arrested by Delhi police for taking bets

After raiding a house in southeast Delhi's Lajpat Nagar on the night of Asia Cup's final, the Delhi police arrested four men and claimed to have busted a betting racket. Police said that the four accused suffered heavy loss in their business and in order to make quick money they resorted to betting.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sandeep Kumar (33), Harish Kumar (35), Naveen Kumar (31) and Harvinder Singh (34), all residents of Delhi and partners in a construction business. Police said that they had got a tip-off about a racket being run in a house in Lajpat Nagar on September 28.
"Following the tip-off, a team raided a house at around 1 am in Lajpat Nagar when the final match of the Asia Cup series was being played between India and Bangladesh. There were four people inside the house who were caught in action. All the four were arrested and a case under Delhi Public Gambling Act was registered against them," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast).
Police said that a laptop and eight mobile phones being used for betting were recovered from them. The house was found to be Harish's.
"During interrogation, they revealed that in the past few years due to low property rates they suffered heavy loss in their business and in order to make quick money they decided to become cricket bookies. They wanted to earn a good commission from the cricket bets," said Biswal. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
