LUCKNOW: The road from Nirala Nagar to
Purania crossing, one of the busiest in the city, is full of
potholes and rough patches which pose a serious threat to the lives of commuters and nearby residents.
The 8 no. Chauraha road, as
it is popularly known, has so many potholes that even a patch of proper levelled road is difficult to find. The gravel that has come out is still lying on the road and makes driving on it extremely risky, especially during night. Recently, a student got injured when his scooty skidded and later succumbed during treatment. "I don't even remember when Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) had last repaired this road. These potholes are very dangerous and we have to drive very carefully as any mistake can turn fatal," said Rahul Agarwal, a resident of Niralanagar.
When TOI surveyed the roads from IT crossing, Nirala Nagar and Purania to find out how local bodies have been addressing the problem of potholes, the residents said that no steps have been taken to repair the broken roads in these areas and no official comes for even routine inspection of roads.
"The roads in this area have crumbled. There are potholes from 8 no. chauraha to Purania. No one has turned up to fill potholes or repair rough patches," said Rekha Jaiswal, a resident living near IT crossing.
Mukesh Shukla, the corporator of Nirala Nagar, said, "I have talked to LMC officials about repairing the roads but only got assurances. This has been going on since last 10 months. We are still waiting for funds to be released for repairing the damaged roads."
