As per the , the National Institute of Statistics (INE) 2017 accounted 1.9 percent decrease year-on-year with a total of 10.2 million international tourists arrival in Spain.
This implies that for the first time Spain did not register a record high in international arrivals.
During the first eight months Spain received 57.3 million international tourist revealing a decrease of 0.1 percent as compared to 2017.
The tourist arrivals from Britain was 12.9 m, 8.3 million from France and 7.7 million from Germany.
The international tourists spent was 11.54 billion euros in the country showing a 1.8 percent increase as compared to the same period last year.
There was a 3.7 percent rise year-on-year in spending per tourist that went upto 1,131 euros while the average daily spending per tourist reached 139 euros, 10.7 percent more than in the same month of a year earlier.
State Secretary for Tourism, Isabel Oliver stated that tourist spending was positive from British market which registered lower dynamism in the number of travellers this year.
He further said that his main focus was quality tourism than quality and the spending should reflect how they will measure the strength of their sector.
Spain wants to transform its tourism model, moving on from the huge number of visitors to an increase in spending.
