GURUGRAM:
Vendors of Sector 10A have filed a complaint at the police commissioner’s office against ward 32
councillor Ashwini Sharma, alleging that he has been harassing them and extorting money.
The move comes after a
video of the councillor overturning the carts of hawkers in Sector 10A on Tuesday went viral.
According to the vendors, Sharma met them a few months ago and informed them that the stalls they had put up in the market were illegal. He asked them to pay Rs 1,05,180 following which they were given a designated slot to set up their carts.
In September, Huda carried out an anti-encroacment drive and cleared the market of the carts.
But, the vendors returned to the area soon. They alleged that on Tuesday, Sharma along with a few others reached the spot, threatened the vendors on gunpoint and overturned their carts. In the video, Sharma can be seen arguing with the vendors.
However, councillor Ashwini Sharma said that all the allegations were baseless and the carts were removed by Huda last month. “The carts were encroaching the market area. All allegations against me are baseless,” Sharma said.
