AHMEDABAD: A state intelligence bureau (SIB) official, who went missing a week ago, appeared before local crime branch at Gandhinagar on Wednesday morning.
PSI Anil Parmar, a Dalit man, had left his home on September 27 after leaving a handwritten note accusing his superiors of casteist harassment.
Parmar’s note containing names of top police officials was found by his family who filed a missing person complaint with Infocity police station at Gandhinagar.
State IB head, R B Brahmbhatt, had trashed Parmar’s allegations, as made in the note, and said there had been no discrimination or torture due to his caste. Rights activists and family members of Parmar, however, accused police of caste-based discrimination.
The probe was given to Gandhinagar local crime branch (LCB) and before the agency could trace the missing cop, he appeared before them in person.
After appearing before LCB on Wednesday, Parmar issued a video statement claiming he had been about to commit suicide on Tuesday, but before that he made a call to his daughter and decided to return home.
Parmar, however, reiterated his allegations against his superiors.
“I want to tell you all that I had left home to commit suicide due to immense harassment conducted on me by my superior officials. I had decided to commit suicide yesterday (Tuesday) but thought that I should talk with my family once. When I called up my family and talked with my daughter, I became emotional after listening to my daughter. So, I returned home,” said Parmar.
A senior LCB official said that Parmar had been to Hardiwar in Uttarakhand during these seven days. Currently his mental condition is not stable so the police will not grill him too much, added the official.
