St. Aloysius College here has bagged third rank in the country in the swachh campus competition organised for colleges by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, according to its principal Praveen Martis.
It has stood first in the State.
Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister for Human Resource Development, announced the ranks in Delhi on Monday. Certificates were distributed on the same day.
Parameters
The rankings were assessed on the basis of guidelines of the MHRD. The parameters included cleanliness maintained on campus, green initiatives, environmental protection measures, having sufficient toilets for students and their maintenance, maintenance of the canteen, hostels, clean drinking water facility, green audit, energy conservation, waste management system, re-processing of waste, and so on. The UGC committee through a surprise visit to the college made an assessment recently, he said in a release.
The college has also been selected by the MHRD under “Unnat Bharath” scheme. The announcement was made on Tuesday. Under the scheme, five villages around Mangalore have been allocated to the college. They included Someshwar, Kandavara, Mulur, Pilatabettu and Kavalpadur. The scheme envisaged by MHRD will be implemented through the Centre for Social Concern of the college, the release said.
