Surrounded by the luxury world of hotels when he was growing up, he naturally developed a passion for hospitality early in life and made it his career. Vikram Oberoi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EIH Limited, the flagship company of The Oberoi Group, is the son of Mr. P.R.S. Oberoi, Executive Chairman of The Oberoi Group and grandson of late Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi, the founder of The Oberoi Group. Through he is the scion of the Oberoi family, he wasn’t handed the family legacy on a platter; he has had to work hard and earn it.
As Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, he is actively involved in the management and operations of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts and Trident Hotels in India. The Oberoi brand has come to represent fine luxury hotels that offer efficient and personalised service.
An instinctive hotelier, he grew up understanding excellence and is never satisfied with anything less. He strongly believes that one has to contribute and make a difference. A thorough professional, he opines that it is important to make a difference in everything you do, add value and contribute to the success of an organisation.
Oberoi has held various management positions within The Oberoi Group. He was actively involved in the re-engineering of systems and processes of the company, working closely with the consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
Under Oberoi’s leadership, EIH Ltd, the parent entity of The Oberoi Group has grown from strength to strength, with exponential rise in occupancy and profits. The Oberoi Group has been voted the ‘World’s Best Hotel Brand’ for the second consecutive year, by Travel + Leisure, USA, World’s Best Awards, Readers’ Survey 2016 and the ‘World’s Leading Luxury Hotel Brand’ by the World Travel Awards 2015.
In 1997, as General Manager of The Oberoi Rajvilas, Jaipur, he set new standards of excellence in personalised service. He led a young and committed team, winning international accolades and recognition for The Oberoi Group.
Oberoi has a degree in Economics from Pepperdine University in California. After graduating, he gained work experience as a stockbroker at ANZ McCaughan in Australia. Thereafter, he returned to India to join The Oberoi Group’s management team.
