Gandhiji’s ECG audio part of exhibition

With the help of an electrocardiography report from 1937, the National Gandhi Museum in Delhi has recreated an audio of Mahatma Gandhi’s heartbeat and has put it up as an exhibit to mark his 150th birth anniversary on Tuesday.

Visitors will be able to hear the Mahatma’s heartbeat as well as view a special photography exhibition on world peace and non-violence.

The museum also launched a digital multimedia kit that includes 30 books, 20 of them written by the Mahatma and 10 about him, his speeches and a documentary on his life.

The kit is available in English, Hindi and Tamil.

The new attractions seek to establish a greater connect between the public and the Mahatma.

Director of the museum A. Annamalai said: “We [museum authorities] are responsible in taking Gandhiji’s message and principles forward and we hope that this step will help us add more people to the Gandhian movement.”

Most visitors to the museum were unaware of the new additions, but were delighted by the special exhibition.

“It is very inspiring to read quotes on Gandhiji by other world leaders, included in the photography exhibition,” said Nihal, a visitor.

The museum plans to do a special exhibition each month on different themes.
