A major fire broke out at the city's Calcutta Medical College on Wednesday morning. Ten fire engines were rushed to the spot and firefighters are currently trying to control the blaze.
Director General of West Bengal Fire Services Jag Mohan, has also reached the spot.
So far there are no reports of any casualties.
At around 7.30 a.m., the fire broke out at a pharmacy inside the hospital premises. The incident triggered chaos at the hospital as the fire broke out near the Emergency ward which forced the hospital authorities to evacuate more than 100 patients from the ward.
The incident has generated discontent among a section of the patients who questioned the fire-safety measures.
