Nagpur: The Nagpur University (NU) and neighbouring Amravati University (AU) have been selected for establishment of incubation centres by Maharashtra State Innovation Society.
Under the incubation centre, entrepreneurship skills will be developed among students. Government has sanctioned Rs5 crore to each incubation centre and 50 start-up are expected in next 5 years.

The scheme has been started to contribute towards the central government’s Start Up Indian Mission. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, the state government had launched Innovation and Start Up Policy 2018.

The government had invited proposals to set up 15 incubation centre across the state.

On Wednesday, pro-VC Pramod Yeole received the intent letter at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai. Governor chancellor Vidyasagar Rao, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, union minister Suresh Prabhu, education minister Vinod Tawde and secretary of skill development were present.

NU’s department of pharmaceutical sciences professor Prakash Itankar has been appointed convener of its incubation centre.

Manoj Rai is director of innovation, incubation and linkages of the university. Vice-chancellor SP Kane was in Delhi and couldn’t attend the ceremony. Rai had accompanied the VC to Delhi.
