PATNA: A video went viral on Tuesday created a major controversy regarding the death of one Venkatesh alias Chunnu (22), whose body was recovered from railway tracks near Paharpur station by Gaya GRP on Saturday. It is alleged that the youth from Gaya was thrown out of the running train by the GRP personnel on Friday night following a tiff over money demanded by them as Chunnu was travelling without ticket.
The video shows passengers heckling a few cops of the escort party on Ranchi-Patna Janshatabdi Express for demanding money from Chunnu for travelling without ticket. It is alleged that the youth was later thrown out of the train by one of the policemen.
Superintendent of rail police (
Patna) Ashok Kumar Singh, however, denied the allegations and said the deceased was drunk and jumped off of the Ranchi-Patna Janshatabdi Express fearing his arrest by the GRP for consuming liquor. “When the train reached near Paharpur, a few passengers complained that two youths were creating nuisance under the influence of liquor in a particular coach. The escort team rushed there to nab them. However, apprehending his arrest, Chunnu jumped off the running train while his friend Krishna was arrested,” Singh claimed.
The SRP also said the Gaya GRP searched for the victim but could not find him due to darkness. “His body was found on the tracks about 3km away from Paharpur when a GRP team visited the spot on Saturday,” he said, adding the body was later handed over to his parents after postmortem at Gaya government hospital. “Further investigation is on,” Singh said.
