Kannanthanam's career graph in the industry peaked following the super-hit movie ‘Rajavinte Makan’ starring Mohanlal

Senior Malayalam filmmaker Thampi Kannanthanam, 64, died here on Tuesday.

He was admitted to a private hospital here following various ailments. His health condition worsened on Tuesday morning. Mr. Kannanthanam is survived by his wife Kunjumol, daughters Aiswarya and Angel. The cremation will be held later.

A popular commercial filmmaker, Mr. Kannanthanam's career graph in the Malayalam film industry peaked following the super-hit movie Rajavinte Makan starring Mohanlal. He had entered the industry as an associate director to Sasikumar, another noted filmmaker.

Some of his other directorial ventures include Bhoomiyile Rajakkanmar, Vazhiyorakazchakal, Nadody, Chukkan, Manthrikam, and Thavalam, to name a few.

He had also directed a Hindi film Hadd starring Jackie Shroff and Ayesha Jhulka. Freedom, which was released in 2004, was his last directorial venture. He had also penned the scripts for movies like Janmantharam and Freedom. Mr. Kannanthanam had also produced movies, include Maanthrikam, Indrajaalam, Vazhiyorakazchakal, Rajavinte Makan etc.
