Family members of the tuition teacher who was shot dead on Monday morning suspect involvement of his girlfriend’s elder brother as he was allegedly against their interfaith relationship.
The police, however, ruled out any “communal angle” to the case so far.
Victim Ankit Kumar’s father Amar Singh, 62, a former civic body employee, said that his son had met the woman in 2005 when she had come to take tuitions as a Class XI student.
‘Woman often visited us’
“They became friends and their relationship started three years later. They have been together since then,” he said, adding that the woman used to visit their house and spend time with them.
The father said the two had plans of getting married, but the woman’s elder brother was against their relationship.
“I had met her parents and spoken about their marriage plans. We had no problem. But her family did not give us a positive response. The parents appeared okay with the alliance but the brother was absolutely against it,” he said.
The family also alleged that the woman’s brother had threatened her and Ankit six months ago to end their relationship or else be ready to face consequences.
“The brother threatened the girl that he would either kill her or Ankit if they did not part ways. The girl told Ankit but we did not pay heed to it. We thought he said it in anger,” said Ankit’s brother Jaiparvesh.
Marriage preparations
The family said that they had started renovating their house for Ankit’s marriage. “He had turned 31 and we had told him that he could marry the girl he likes. We thought it will not be a problem so we had started preparations,” the brother said.
Although the family members suspect the involvement of the woman’s brother, they said they will wait for the police investigation to reveal the murdered.
