Some say the U.S is more divided than ever.??Obviously politics are a major point of contention right now, but also movies.
Like Star Wars: the Last Jedi can get some seriously heated debate going.??You probably never thought those two things were related-??But, according to a new study by Morton Bay of the University of Southern California, they just might be??After looking at every tweet made to the movie’s writer and director, Rian Johnson, after the Last Jedi’s release, ??Bay found that more than half of all negative messages sent were from bot and troll accounts.??And sixteen of those accounts Twitter has already identified as being part of Russia’s own troll farm.
But they were doing more than just tweeting anti- Star Wars at Johnson-??Bay’s study found they were quote: “...using the debate to propagate messages supporting extreme right-wing causes and the discrimination of gender, race or sexuality.”??So why Star Wars???They seem to be piggy-backing off its divided fanbase and according to the study: “...further propagating a narrative of widespread discord and dysfunction in American society.”??And here I just thought it was that weird blue milk scene.
